Here are some of things I have loved using the last six to nine months.
I have featured two products as “Game Changers.” As I think they would carry significant value to the majority of the readers.
Please note, I never use affiliate links to feel free to click away 🙂
Game Changer No.1: Headspace App
In February this year, I wrote a post that was featured on My Morning Routines. I described how meditation wasn’t for me and I did not really include the habit into my daily routine. For the last six months, I have used Headspace nearly every day. I first came across Headspace on Product Hunt a while back.
Headspace is a guided meditation app that walks you through every step. It is free and you have nothing to loose. I think you will be highly impressed in just a couple of weeks. If you do not like Headspace, try Calm. Both are fantastic.
Game Changer No.2: Rumble Roller & Rad Ball
I was fortunate enough to meet an inspirational lady this year called Jenn Burke, who runs the training and coaching at PTEC in San Fransisco. Jenn introduced me to myofascial release and all of its benefits.
If you hate stretching as much as I do try “The Rumble Roller” and “Rad Ball.” It will sort out all of your problems. I will let Tony Horton explain just how great these are: How to Reduce Muscle and Joint Pain with Foam Rolling.
One Podcast to listen to: Derek Sivers on Developing Confidence, Finding Happiness, and Saying “No” to Millions
Derek sold CD Baby for $22M, giving the proceeds to a charitable trust for music education. He is a frequent speaker at the TED Conference, with over 5 million views of his talks.Since 2011 he has published 34 books, including “Anything You Want” which shot to #1 on all of its Amazon categories. Here is the link to the podcast.
Twin Skins Running Socks
I never really thought about spending money on really good socks. I have now become a sock snob! They give you so much more grip to your shoes, I have noticed a huge difference with plyometric workouts and long distance running.
One Book to Read: Elon Musk by Ashely Vallance
Amazing insight into Elon Musk’s life. Super fast read. After reading this, you will want to build rockets, take over the world and fly to Mars. Then you will realize, that you are not Elon Musk.
Hope House Press Journals
I have been in search for a really good journal for a long time. Hope House Press have delivered it. They are on the pricey side, but It will hold you accountable to write neatly and value if it is worthing writing down.
Skins Tri Shorts
All purpose shorts for running, swimming and cycling. Tri specific chamois provides the perfect compromise between protection and freedom of moment. Increased efficiency via carbon-infused fabric on the inside legs to reduce friction as you run. Super comfortable and exceptional fit. I have barely taken them off since purchasing.
One Man to Follow: Casey Neistat
Casey Neistat is an American film director, producer, designer, creator of popular YouTube videos since 2010 and entrepreneur. Casey is also the co-founder of a social media company called Beme. He makes really awesome vlogs every day. This is my favourite, check it out…
One Thing to Learn: How to make Really Good Coffee
I never really enjoyed making coffee with the Aero Press coffee maker. I found it incredibly messy and awkward to use. The Chemex is a delight to use every morning and quite therapeutic. The Chemex will make up to 8 cups of coffee in one sitting as well.
How to Brew Chemex Coffee? Watch right here
The Five Minute Journal
Checking your phone or email may not be a great way to feed the mind upon waking. (For more on this, I have wrote a post on Morning Routines and Bad Habits.) The Five Minute Journal, is a great alternative way to start the day. It literally takes 5 mins!
One Life Hack to Implement: Quest Bars
I have tried pretty much every bar in the market, and keep coming back to these. Whenever I am craving something sweet, these are the perfect alternative to having a desert. (190 Cals, 20g of Protein and 1 gram of sugar)
Smores Quest Bars are my favourite. Stick them in the microwave for 30 seconds before as well 🙂
One Blog Post to Review: Maker Vs Manager
Timeless blog post by Paul Graham which is worth revisiting many times throughout the year – How to actually manage your time effectively.
One Thing to Say Goodbye to: The Smart Phone
If you become too dependant on something it maybe worth asking “why?” Having spent the first six months of this year with the smartphone, I am back with the flip phone. It cost me £1. There are no distractions and no temptations to ever check anything again. It is fantastic.
Headphones – Bose Sport
Quality sound, running in the rain, travelling abroad and long walks. They just tick all the boxes. I am trying to break them, but they just keep going.
One documentary to watch: Tims Vermeer
If you have never watched this, do it now. Amazing. Trailer below….
One Protein Product to Buy: The Organic Protein Company
One ingredient; Organic Grass Fed Protein.
How to make the perfect protein shake?
22g of Protein. Two ice cubes. Two squares of dark chocolate. 1/2 banana and some water. Done.
The best gift of all.
The majority of the things I have listed above cost money.
In the podcast mentioned above, with Derek Sivers. Tim Ferriss asks Derek…”If you could put anything on a billboard what would you put and where would you put it?”
“I would put “It won’t make you happy,” right outside a Shopping Mall.”
The best moments of 2015 have very much fitted into that philosophy
Doing and being should always be valued more than having. Increasing the speed and size of your life leads to very little.
The long walk with a great friend or loved one.
That epic long run where you follow your feet and got lost.
Sharing a bottle of red with someone in the evening.
Sitting down to write with a cup of coffee.
Getting lost in a great book.
That’s the pudding.
Hope you all have a healthy and happy 2016.
Best wishes and lots of love,
