Cliff Notes: The Best of Ego Is The Enemy

ego

Become less invested in the story you tell about yourself and as a result, you will be liberated to accomplish the world changing work you were so set out to achieve.

Where ever you are or whatever you are doing your worst enemy already lives inside of you.

The ego we most commonly see goes by a more casual definition; an unhealthy belief in our own importance, arrogance, self-centered ambition. The need to be better than, more than and recognized for.

If ego is the voice that tells us we were better than we really are, we can say ego inhibit true success by preventing a direct honest connection to the world around us.We cant work with people  if we put up walls

We can’t work with people if we put up walls. We cant improve the world if we don’t understand it. We can’t take or receive feedback if we are not capable of recognizing opportunities or crate them if instead of seeing what is front of us. How are we supposed to reach, motivate or lead other people if we can’t relate to their need because we’ve lost touch with our own?

When we remove ego, we are left what is real.

Among men who rise to fame and leadership, two types are recognizable: those who are born with a belief in themselves and those in whom it is a slow growth dependent on actual achievement.

Detachment is a sort of natural ego antidote. You must practice seeing yourself with a little distance cultivating the ability to get out of your own head.

For your work to have truth in it, it must come from the truth. If you want to be more than a flash in the pan you must be prepared to focus on the long term.

“Facts are better than dreams.” W Churchill.

Often ego can informs us: How well we are doing or look at how great I am. It is rarely the truth. more often; I’m scared, I’m struggling. I don’t know.

When overwhelmed by a project; you do everything but focus on it. It is easier to talk about doing something. Talking is always easy. Silence is the respite of the confident and the strong. Never give a reason for what you think or do until you must. Talking and doing fight for the same resource. “I just spent 4 hours talking about something.” This does not count for doing something. Success requires 100% of our efforts. We talk to fill the void and the uncertainty.

Let others slap each on the back, while your back in the gym or pounding the pavement. Plug that hole right in the middle of your face and see what happens. To be or to do? That is the question.

Impressing people is utterly different from being truly impressive.

False ideas about yourself destroy you. Always stay a student with a hunger to learn and work. A true student is a sponge. A real student is also his own teacher and his own critic. There is no room for ego there. You can’t learn if you think you already know. You can’t get better if you are convinced you the best.

The art of taking feedback is such a crucial skill in life, particularly hard and critical feedback. We not only need to take this harsh feedback but actively solicit it, label it and seek out the negative precisely when our friend and family and the brain are telling us what we are doing great. the ego avoids such feedback.

When the student is ready the teacher appears.

Why you should never follow your passion:

Find your passion may be the very thing holding you back from power or induce or accomplishment.

The burning passion and unbridled entheasm and thirst to achieve these vague ambitions is so far from the right track it hurts. You want to become dispassionate, as in not passionate. Do the work and be in control. You do not want to be a passion slave. Passion typically masks a weakness. Passionate people can tell you all the things they are going to do, or have begun but they cannot show you their progress because there really isn’t any.  Dogs are passionate. What humans require are our agent purpose and realism.

Passion is about. I am so passionate about……..

The purpose is to and for:

  •  I must do….
  • I was put here to accomplish………
  • I am willing to endure…….

Realism is where do we start?

  • What do we do first?
  • What do we do right now?
  • How are we sure what were doing is moving us forward?
  • Wha are we benchmarking ourselves against?

It is far better if you were intimidated by what lies ahead. Humbled by its magnitude and determined to see it through regardless. Leave passion for the amateurs. Make it about what you feel you MUST do and say, not what you care about and wish to be.

Greatness comes from humble beginnings, it comes from grunt work. it means your the least important person in the room until you change that with results. There is saying, Say little do much. Be lesser do more.

Canvas strategy

Imagine it for every person you meet, you thought of some way to help them. Something you could do for them. You looked at it in a way entirely benefited them and not you. you would develop a reputation for being indefensible. Yo would have an enormous bank of favors to call-up down the road.

You looked at it in a way entirely benefited them and not you. You would develop a reputation for being indefensible. Yo would have an enormous bank of favors to call-up down the road.

You would develop a reputation for being indispensable. You would have an enormous bank of favors to call-up down the road.

Helping yourself by helping others. Making a concerted effort to trade your short term gratification for a longer term payoff. Whereas everyone wants to be credited and respected. you can forget the credit. You can forget it so hard that you’re glad when others get it instead of you.

When everyone wants to be credited and respected. You can forget the credit. You can forget it so hard that you’re glad when others get it instead of you.

Be part of what’s going on around you. Feast on it, adjust it. There’s no one to perform for, there is just work to be done and lessons to learned in all that is around us.

Pride blunts the very instrument we need to own in order to succeed. Pride and ego say: I am an entrepreneur because I struck out on my own, I am going to win because I am currently in the lead. I am writer because I published something. if you can’t swallow your own pride, you cant lead. When you feel pride, the question one might ask themselves: What am I missing right now that a more humble person might see? What am i avoiding or running from?

You can’t build a reputation on what you are going to do.

The hard thing isn’t setting a big audacious goal. The hard thing isn’t dreaming big. The hard thing is doing the work. We simply talking about a lot of hours that to get where we ant to fo. Bill Bradley, when your not posting, remember someone somewhere is practicing and when you meet him he will win.

Bill Bradley: “When your not posting, remember someone somewhere is practicing and when you meet him he will win.”

You can lie to yourself, saying that you put in the time or pretend you’re working, but eventually someone will show up. You will be tested and possibly found out.

Make it so you don’t have to be found out. Make it so you don’t have to fake it.

Every time you sit down to work remind yourself. I am delaying gratification by doing this. I am learning what my ambition burns for. I am making an investment in myself instead of my ego. Give yourself a little credit for this choice. bu not so much because you have o get back to work. to the task at hand. Practice working and improving.

The way to do really big things seems to start with deceptively small things. Keep your identity small. Make it about the work and the principles. not about the glaring vision that makes a good headline. Instead of pretending that we are living some great story, we must remain focused on the executing with excellence.

All of us waste periods of life doing things we don’t like to prove to people we don’t respect and get things we don’t like.

It not about having more than others. its abut being what you are and being as good as possible at it. It’s about going where you set out to go. No more and no less. It’s time to sit down and think about what’s truly implant to you and then take steps to forsake the rest.

You need to know what you don’t want. One can not be an operas singer and a teen pop idol at the same time. Life requires. those trade off but ego cant allow it. So why do you do what you do? That the question you need to answer? Only then you will understand what materials and what doesn’t. Only then can you say noa nd opt out of stupid races that don’t matter or even it. only then you can develop that quiet confidence. Find out what you are after and ignore ethe rest that mess with it. [

First set goals at the top level goals and priorities. Then enforce and over them to produce results and only results.

Make use of us what is around us. Don’t let stubbornness make a bad situation worse.

Ego fights us: I knew you couldn’t do it. This is an opportunity for me, I am using it form a my purse. I will not let this be dead time for me. The dead time was when we controlled by who. now – now we can live.

Are we gong to make this a loose for me and everyone in the situation or am I going to make this a loose win?

To remind yourself of:

  • I am going to be the best version of myself in this present moment. I am in this for the long run no matter how brutal it may be. To do not be.
  • Its time to sit down and thin about whats truly implant to you and then take steps to forsake the rest. Without this, success will not be pleasurable or nearly as complete as it could be. or worse it won’t last.
  • First, set goals at the top level goals and priorities. then enforce and over them to produce results and only result.s
  • So why do you do what you do? That the question you need to answer? Only then you will understand what matters and what doesn’t. Only then can you say noa nd opt out of stupid races that don’t matter or even it. only then you can develop that quiet confidence. Find out what you are after and ignore ethe rest that mess with it. [
  • We surround ourselves with bull shit, with distractions with lies about what makes us happy and what important. We become people we should become and engage in lecture and awful behaviors. Hard things are broken by hard things.
  • You must sweep the floor every minute of every day, and then sweep again.
